Astana LRT Pillars Show Early Signs of Wear، Sparking Public Concern
Residents of Astana are expressing concern over the condition of the pillars supporting the city's new Light Rail Transit (LRT) line. Images circulating on social media reveal that the paint on several pillars has already begun to peel، despite the project not yet being operational.
Public Reaction and Debate
The sight of deteriorating paint has ignited a lively discussion among social media users. Opinions are divided، with some questioning the necessity of painting the concrete structures at all. Others voiced concerns that unpainted concrete could be susceptible to rapid degradation from weather exposure. A few even suggested that the pillars would be better off adorned with graffiti.
Company's Explanation
City Transportation Systems (CTS)، the company overseeing the project، has responded to the concerns. They stated that the pillars have only been painted once. Painting work was halted during the winter season and is scheduled to be completed once warmer weather returns.
Past Incidents and Future Launch
This is not the first paint-related issue for the Astana LRT. In the summer of 2023، paint splatters from the construction damaged approximately 60 vehicles. At the time، contractors attributed the incident to strong winds.
Despite these setbacks، Astana Mayor Zhenis Kassymbek has indicated that the LRT line is slated for launch in the coming weeks.
