Astana Supermarkets See Shifting Prices on Essential Groceries
Prices for essential food items are showing instability across Astana's supermarkets. While some products are seeing price hikes، others are becoming more affordable، creating a dynamic grocery landscape for consumers.
Shifts in Grocery Staples
The cost of table salt has been on the rise، potentially due to supply issues from producers offering lower prices. In February، a kilogram of salt increased from 81 to 109 tenge، and currently stands at 127 tenge. Similarly، a two-kilogram pack of first-grade flour has returned to its earlier price of 575 tenge، up from 390 tenge.
However، staples like granulated sugar (430 tenge/kg)، rice (372 tenge/kg)، groats (265 tenge/kg)، and pasta (299 tenge/kg) have maintained their prices. Formed bread remains stable at 95 tenge، and a liter of sunflower oil is priced at 800 tenge.
Black tea continues its downward price trend. A 250-gram pack، initially priced at 1289 tenge at the start of the month، dropped to 1125 tenge mid-February and is now available on promotion for 895 tenge.
Vegetable and Fruit Price Fluctuations
Among socially significant vegetables، carrots، cucumbers، and apples have seen price increases. A kilogram of carrots rose from 197 to 209 tenge، cucumbers from 2379 to 2645 tenge، and apples from 695 to 805 tenge.
Potatoes (201 tenge/kg) and cabbage (220 tenge/kg) prices remain unchanged. Onions are becoming cheaper، decreasing from 159 tenge/kg at the beginning of the month to 148 tenge/kg currently. Tomatoes have also seen a price drop، from 1629 tenge/kg two weeks ago to 1495 tenge/kg now.
Meat and Fish Market Trends
In the meat category، only bone-in beef has increased in price، from 3190 to 3990 tenge per kilogram. Most other meat products، except for beef mince (4290 tenge/kg)، have become more affordable.
Bone-in beef has decreased by 300 tenge، now priced at 6690 tenge/kg. While frozen chicken was 1745 tenge in the second decade of February، chilled chicken is now available for 1390 tenge/kg. Chicken drumsticks have reduced in price from 1799 to 1749 tenge per kilogram. Chilled chicken breast is priced at 1839 tenge/kg. Horse meat has seen a significant price drop of 690 tenge، now selling for 5000 tenge per kilogram.
A tray of thirty chicken eggs، previously 1729 tenge، is now available for 1589 tenge.
Fish prices have remained stable، though the variety has changed. Previously، a kilogram of zander fillet cost 3833 tenge؛ now، the same price point allows for the purchase of a kilogram of frozen pollock.
Dairy Product Pricing
In the dairy section، butter has decreased in price from 4945 to 4169 tenge per kilogram. A package of ayran has also become cheaper، dropping from 445 to 410 tenge. Cottage cheese has seen a notable price reduction، with a 200-gram package now costing 1159 tenge، down from 1639 tenge. The price for tvorog (farmer's cheese) remains unchanged at 785 tenge for a 380-gram package، equating to 2065 tenge per kilogram.
