Astana's Light Rail Transit (LRT) system is undergoing an expansion that will extend its route to the old railway station. This development was announced by Asylbek Duysebayev، the Chairman of the Board of "City Transportation Systems" (CTS) company.

New Route Details

Construction on the new line has already commenced. The LRT will travel via the "Khan Shatyr" shopping center، turn onto Kenesary Street، and proceed along Zhenis Avenue to reach the old train station. Discussions are currently underway with banks regarding the financing of this project. The successful completion of the first phase has reportedly increased the banks' interest in the LRT project.

Project Features and Funding

The new LRT line will be constructed by the same contractor responsible for the initial phase. The cost of this expansion is expected to be comparable to the previously built sections. The existing LRT route connects the international airport to the "Nurly Zhol" station، featuring a total of 18 stations that serve the city's business centers and residential areas.

Construction and Contractor

According to the head of CTS، geological surveys are being conducted for the LRT extension to the old train station. Construction will begin once the financing is secured. The contractor will be an organization with prior experience in LRT construction، similar to the previous phase. The project's cost is anticipated to be in line with the expenses of the original LRT construction.
