Atyrau Psychiatric Dispensary Relocates to New Modern Facility
Atyrau is set to replace its aging and structurally unsound psychiatric dispensary with a new، modern medical center. The decision comes after the current facility's buildings were declared hazardous، prompting urgent relocation plans.
Deteriorating Conditions of the Current Facility
The existing psychiatric dispensary comprises several single-story buildings constructed between 1938 and 1984. Despite being officially recognized as dilapidated in 2021، these structures continue to provide inpatient care for 107 patients.
History of New Construction Projects
The initiative to build a new psychiatric facility in Atyrau is not new، with several attempts made over the years. Between 2008 and 2010، Agip KCO sponsored the development and expert review of project documentation. However، the reasons for the project's subsequent failure to materialize remain unclear.
A renewed effort in 2017، with assistance from NCOC، saw the documentation redone. This time، the project stalled because the proposed land plot conflicted with water protection zones، preventing it from passing expert review.
Current Status and Future Plans
In 2021، the regional budget allocated 37.4 million tenge for the construction of a 250-bed Mental Health Center. The latest project documentation was prepared by "Assem Zholdas Kurylys" LLP، and the process of coordinating with utility networks is currently underway. Following this، the project will be submitted for state expert review.
A 7.5-hectare plot of land has been allocated in Almaly village، near Atyrau، for the construction of the new center.
