Azerbaijan Thwarts Iran-Linked Terror Plots Targeting Key Infrastructure and Religious Sites
Azerbaijan's security forces have successfully disrupted a series of planned terrorist acts targeting strategic locations and religious communities within the country. The State Security Service announced that these plots were allegedly orchestrated with the involvement of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Targets of the Attacks
According to the security services، the planned assaults were aimed at critical national infrastructure and representatives of religious groups. Specific targets identified included the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline، the Israeli Embassy in Azerbaijan، a prominent leader of the Mountain Jewish community، and the Ashkenazi synagogue. To carry out these attacks، three explosive devices were reportedly brought into the country.
Prevention of Terrorist Acts
The State Security Service stated that the explosive devices were intercepted during operations as they were being handed over to third parties. These actions were part of comprehensive counter-intelligence measures designed to ensure public safety and protect the nation's vital infrastructure. The agency emphasized that these efforts successfully prevented potential casualties and severe damage.
Legal Proceedings and Charges
Following the operations، several Azerbaijani citizens have been brought to justice. A court found four individuals guilty and sentenced them to 6 years and 6 months in prison. Additionally، two other individuals are under investigation for plotting an assassination attempt on a public figure، while one person is being investigated for illegal possession of weapons and explosives. Pre-trial detention has been ordered for these accused individuals.
