Almaty's Bauman Park is on the cusp of completing a significant renovation project that began in the autumn of 2025. With approximately one month left until the official reopening، journalists were given a firsthand look at the progress on April 16th.

New Additions and Upgrades

The park has seen a substantial transformation، now featuring modern lighting، surveillance cameras، and dedicated bins for waste sorting. New benches، cradles، and distinct areas for children and sports activities have been installed. While many pathways are now covered with special gravel material، some sections also feature asphalt paving.

However، not all facilities are fully operational، and some areas are still awaiting clearance for public use، as indicated by the contractor's notices.

Official Response and Project Status

The press service of the Almaty City Administration has confirmed that the landscaping work is proceeding according to schedule، with no delays anticipated. The project is expected to be completed within the planned timeframe.

Furthermore، the administration clarified that the contractor has not removed any trees. Instead، approximately one thousand new trees have been planted. This detail is particularly important given the controversies that have surrounded the park's renovation from its inception.

Addressing Past Concerns

The initial sanitary project for the park، announced last October، sparked considerable public outcry. The plan had suggested that a significant portion of the trees might be weakened، drying out، or potentially deemed hazardous.

In response to citizen concerns، officials had pledged that no trees would be cut during the landscaping. Despite this assurance، instances of tree damage and illegal cutting were later recorded within the park.

Investigations were conducted into these incidents، resulting in fines for the contractors involved. The situation was further complicated by the subsequent detention of blogger Sanzhar Bokayev، who had been monitoring the park's renovation efforts.
