Bulgaria's Dara Wins Eurovision 2026 with "Bangaranga"

Bulgarian singer Dara has emerged victorious at the 70th Eurovision Song Contest، held in the Austrian capital. Her captivating performance of the song "Bangaranga" captivated audiences and secured her the top spot.

A Stunning Victory

Dara outperformed strong contenders، including the favored Finnish duo and Australian artist Delta Goodrem، who were considered frontrunners by global bookmakers. The competition was fierce، but Dara's performance ultimately resonated most with voters.

Eurovision's Top Performers

Following the voting، the top ten artists were revealed. Noam Betan from Israel secured second place، followed by Alexandra Captan from Romania in third. Delta Goodrem of Australia took fourth، with Sal Da Vinci from Italy rounding out the top five.

The rest of the top ten included Linda Lampenius and Pete Parkkonen from Finland (6th)، Søren Torpgaard Lund from Denmark (7th)، Satoshi from Moldova (8th)، LELÉKA from Ukraine (9th)، and Akylas from Greece (10th).

Challenges Marring the 70th Contest

This year's Eurovision، marking its 70th anniversary، faced significant hurdles during its preparation، making it one of the most challenging in the contest's history. The participation of Israel led to boycotts from five countries، a decision stemming from Israel's military operations in the Gaza Strip.

The conflict، which began with a Hamas attack in October 2023 resulting in over 1،200 deaths، has led to tens of thousands of Palestinian casualties in response. This geopolitical tension cast a shadow over the event.

On-Stage and On-Street Reactions

During the first semi-final on May 12th، anti-Israel activists' shouts were audible in the venue as Israeli representative Noam Betan performed. However، by the time of the final، the audience reception for Israel's entry was warmer، contributing to Betan's second-place finish. A planned protest of three thousand people against Israel's participation on Saturday did not reach its expected numbers.
