Court Rules Against Sister of Ex-Minister in Defamation Case

A legal dispute between Aitbek Amangeldi، the brother of the late Saltanat Nukenova، and Aruzhan Bishimbayeva، the sister of convicted ex-minister Kuandyk Bishimbayev، has concluded in Astana. The court ruled in favor of Amangeldi، ordering Bishimbayeva to retract several public statements.

Background of the Dispute

The case stems from public commentary following the tragic murder of Saltanat Nukenova by her husband، Kuandyk Bishimbayev، who was sentenced to 24 years in prison in May 2024. While the legal proceedings against Bishimbayev have concluded، tensions between the families have continued.

Literary and Social Media Clash

In autumn of the previous year، Aitbek Amangeldi released a memoir titled "Her Name Was Saltanat." Shortly after، Aruzhan Bishimbayeva publicly criticized the book on social media، accusing Amangeldi of exploiting the tragedy for personal gain.

Bishimbayeva's Allegations

Through her Instagram account، Bishimbayeva made several serious accusations against Amangeldi. She alleged he was seeking attention، using bots on social media، and financially capitalizing on public sympathy.

Amangeldi's Legal Response

In response to these statements، Aitbek Amangeldi formally documented Bishimbayeva's posts with a notary and filed a lawsuit. He asserted that the published information was false and damaging to his reputation and honor.

Court's Decision

During the legal proceedings، two expert analyses were conducted. These analyses indicated that some of Bishimbayeva's statements could negatively impact the claimant's reputation. The defense argued that these posts represented subjective opinions.

A subsequent examination confirmed that certain statements made by Aruzhan Bishimbayeva contained explicitly negative content. The court recognized several of these statements، published on Instagram، as factually inaccurate and ordered their retraction.

Furthermore، Aruzhan Bishimbayeva has been ordered to pay over 1 million tenge to cover expert examination and legal representation costs، along with 100 tenge for moral damages. However، the court's decision has not yet entered into legal force.
