Former Kyrgyz Officials Charged in Alleged State Coup Attempt

Several high-ranking former officials in Kyrgyzstan have been officially charged in connection with an alleged attempt to overthrow the government. Among those indicted are Kamchybek Tashiev، former chairman of the National Security Committee (KNB)، former deputy Kurmanqul Zulushev، and Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu (Nurlanbek Shakiev)، ex-speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh.

Charges Filed by Defense

The accusations were confirmed by the officials' lawyer، Sherdor Abdykaparov. He stated that the three individuals were formally read charges under the same articles previously applied to other suspects in the case. These charges are being treated as serious offenses، including organizing mass riots and attempting a state coup.

Investigation Details Emerge

Sources within law enforcement agencies indicated that the suspects were interrogated at the Main Investigation Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The questioning reportedly lasted for several hours، with the investigation continuing after their departure from the ministry building. While specific details of the charges and the ongoing investigation remain officially undisclosed، information from law enforcement suggests the probe is linked to a case referred to as "75 letters."

Background of the Case

Earlier this year، in February، 75 individuals reportedly sent an appeal to Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and the Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh، requesting early presidential elections. On February 10، Japarov dismissed Kamchybek Tashiev، described as a close friend and trusted associate، from all his positions. According to the presidential press service، this move was aimed at strengthening national unity and preventing discord within society and state structures.

The president's press secretary alleged that individuals close to Tashiev had contacted members of parliament، urging them to side with a "general" and initiate presidential elections.
