The commercial property is located at 15 Gogol Street in the Medeu district of Almaty. The auction is scheduled to take place on March 18th via the Dmas electronic trading platform. This platform is typically used for the sale of loan portfolios and collateral، suggesting the building was previously held as collateral for outstanding debts.

The building spans approximately 2،500 square meters and was constructed in 1986. The initial bidding price is set at 2.3 billion tenge.

The Rise and Fall of Interfood

According to Forbes magazine، the Interfood supermarket chain was owned by the Kulmakhanov family. In 2016، they ranked 10th on the list of Kazakhstan's most profitable entrepreneurs، with an estimated income of around 1.5 billion tenge.

Family members were involved in various business ventures. Shalbiy Kulmakhanov owned the "White Tower" business center، while his wife، Sholpan Kulmakhanova، was the founder of "Interfood" LLP، overseeing the supermarket chain and managing shopping and entertainment centers like "City Plus" and "City Center،" as well as business centers "Grand Asia A" and "Grand Asia B."

Information surfaced in November 2025 indicating that Sholpan Kulmakhanova's stake in Interfood had been pledged as collateral since mid-2019. The company's bank accounts، assets، and vehicles have faced multiple arrests، with restrictions placed on registration and notarial activities.

As of November 2025، the total amount of outstanding debts was approaching 5.5 billion tenge، with the majority of these claims originating from banks. Notably، in September، Halyk Bank placed claims against the Interfood supermarket building، the land plot، and adjacent areas due to outstanding loan obligations.
