Halyk Bank، one of Kazakhstan's largest financial institutions، has announced plans to close thousands of bank accounts belonging to inactive customers. This decision، part of a broader initiative to streamline its infrastructure and organize its client base، has raised concerns among many citizens.

Why Are Accounts Being Closed؟

According to Halyk Bank's press service، the measure is aimed at optimizing the bank's system. The primary reasons include updating the client database and reducing the technical load on the accounting system. In line with banking regulations and contract terms، banks reserve the right to unilaterally close accounts if a client has not made any transactions for the past 12 months and the account balance is zero.

Account Closure Timeline and Conditions

Account holders whose accounts are slated for closure will have a 30-day period from the date of the announcement to preserve their details. After this period expires، the accounts will be permanently deleted، and the previous IBAN numbers cannot be restored.

Halyk Bank has published a comprehensive list of account details subject to closure on its official website. Customers are urged to cross-reference their personal information with this published list. If your account appears on the list but you intend to use it in the future، you can prevent its closure by making any transaction or depositing funds into the account within the 30-day window.

Is This a Cause for Concern؟

The mass closure of inactive accounts is a common practice in the banking sector. Maintaining these dormant accounts requires additional resources for security and accounting، which is inefficient for both the client and the bank. If your account is closed، it does not restrict your right to use Halyk Bank's services in the future.
