Kazakh Speed Skater Returns Home a Five-Time World Champion

Kazakhstan's speed skating sensation، Kristina Shumekova، has arrived back in Astana following a triumphant performance at the World Junior Championships held in Inzell، Germany. The 19-year-old athlete achieved a historic feat، clinching gold medals in three individual distances and the relay race.

Dominating the Junior World Championships

Shumekova's exceptional talent was on full display as she not only secured multiple gold medals but also earned a silver in another event. Her overall performance at the championships crowned her a five-time world champion in the junior category، a remarkable achievement for the young athlete.

An Unforgettable Experience

Reflecting on her victory، Shumekova expressed her elation، stating، "My mood is wonderful right now! It's impossible to put into words. Standing on the podium، seeing the flag of Kazakhstan raised and hearing our anthem sung – these are some of the most unforgettable moments." She added that she was confident in her ability to win medals before the championship but was pleasantly surprised by her success in the 500-meter race.

Overcoming an Anthem Blunder

The championships were not without a notable incident. Following Shumekova's initial victory، the award ceremony mistakenly played an outdated version of the Kazakh national anthem، which had not been in use since 2006. However، the organizers corrected the error، and the correct anthem was played multiple times at the Inzell stadium when Shumekova secured her second gold medal.

Beyond Shumekova's individual success، Vadim Chebardakov also brought home a gold medal for Kazakhstan، and the national team secured the top spot in the overall medal standings.
