Kazakhstan Denies 20% Pension Cut Rumors Spread via Deepfake Videos

Kazakhstan's Ministry of Labor and Social Protection has officially refuted widespread social media claims suggesting a 20% deduction from pension payments. The ministry stated that these reports are entirely unfounded and do not reflect reality.

Deepfake Technology Fuels Misinformation

According to the ministry، unidentified individuals have been using sophisticated deepfake technology to create and disseminate fabricated video content. These videos falsely allege that salary and pension payments will be reduced by 20%. The ministry has issued a formal response to address this misinformation campaign.

Pension Increases Underway

In contrast to the false claims، the Ministry of Labor detailed recent and ongoing improvements to pension benefits. As of January 1، 2026، both basic and accumulative pension amounts have been increased by 10%، aligned with the projected inflation rate، based on forecasts from the National Bank.

Furthermore، following a directive from the Head of State، a phased increase of up to 70% for the minimum basic pension and up to 120% for the maximum pension is being implemented annually over five years، starting from 2023.

Projected Pension Amounts for 2026

By January 1، 2026، the minimum basic pension is set to reach 35،596 tenge، representing 70% of the subsistence minimum. The maximum pension amount is projected to rise between 110% and 118%، reaching 60،005 tenge.

The ministry urges citizens to rely solely on official information sources and warns that disseminating false information may carry legal consequences.
