Kazakhstan Officially Changes National Currency Spelling to 'Tenge'
Kazakhstan has officially updated the spelling of its national currency. The name of the currency، previously written as 'Tenge' in Russian-language official documents، will now be transliterated using the Kazakh letter 'ڭ'، resulting in the spelling 'Teńge'.
Changes in Official Documentation
This linguistic adjustment has been noted by active users of social media and specialized Telegram channels. The updated spelling is evident in new documents from financial regulators.
Technical and Linguistic Nature of the Change
Developers have clarified that this change is purely technical and linguistic. Its primary aim is to ensure official documents align with the norms of the state language and the Constitution. This does not signify any financial reform or a need to replace banknotes.
Impact on the Public
The Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market has urged citizens to remain calm، stating there is no need to rush to banks or re-register contracts. For ordinary Kazakhstani citizens، this change will likely go unnoticed as it currently pertains only to interdepartmental document circulation.
However، experts do not rule out the possibility that in the future، the spelling of 'Teńge' with the letter 'ڭ' will become mandatory in all official documents، regardless of language.
