Kazakhstan: Over 2،300 Offenders Perform Community Service for Minor Crimes
Since the beginning of the year، Kazakhstan has seen over 2،300 individuals convicted of criminal acts and minor offenses engaged in community service. These tasks include cleaning streets، parks، yards، and playgrounds، as well as landscaping and beautification projects.
The Committee for the Criminal Executive System (CES) reported that these types of community service do not require specialized education or professional skills. Convicted individuals work under the supervision of overseers for no more than four hours a day.
Jealousy Leads to Public Service
In one notable case from the Pavlodar region، a man who became jealous of his sister's new admirer got into an altercation and inflicted minor injuries upon her. A court sentenced him to 60 hours of community service. The individual completed his sentence without any violations and was subsequently discharged from the system.
CES officials noted that this experience served as a lesson for the man، prompting him to reconsider his behavior.
Purpose of Community Service
The primary goal of community service، according to the CES، is to reform individuals through labor and prevent them from re-offending. This approach aims to reintegrate offenders into society while contributing to public works.
