Kazakhstan to Build $2 Billion AI Hub with OpenAI and NVIDIA
Kazakhstan is poised to become a major hub for artificial intelligence (AI) development in Central Asia، following significant agreements with tech giants OpenAI and NVIDIA. The initiatives، spearheaded by Timur Turlov، head of Freedom Holding Corp.، aim to integrate AI into the nation's education system and establish a large-scale computing infrastructure for AI advancement.
165،000 ChatGPT Licenses for Education
Freedom Holding Corp. has finalized two key agreements and memorandums with OpenAI and NVIDIA. The collaboration with OpenAI focuses on enhancing Kazakhstan's educational landscape. The company has funded 165،000 licenses for a specialized version of ChatGPT (UDU) for the country's education sector. These licenses are intended to improve learning، academic research، and scholarly activities.
AI Assistants for Teachers
This AI integration is designed to free up educators from routine tasks، allowing them to dedicate more time to students. Each teacher will gain access to an intelligent assistant capable of aiding in lesson planning، test creation and grading، and tailoring educational materials to individual student needs. These tools will be available in Kazakh، Russian، and English. Notably، this project will be implemented without government funding، adhering to information security and data protection standards.
License Distribution Details
The distribution plan for these licenses has been outlined. According to an agreement with the Ministries of Science، Education، and Digital Development، 100،000 licenses will go to vocational and technical education institutions، 62،000 to universities، and over 2،000 to participants of the Astana Hub innovation cluster. This partnership places Kazakhstan among the first wave of countries in OpenAI's global "Education for All" program، alongside Singapore and the UAE، with specialized training courses to be provided by OpenAI experts.
Central Asia's Largest AI Center
The second major initiative involves NVIDIA in establishing the largest sovereign AI center in Central Asia within Kazakhstan. The total investment for this project could exceed $2 billion. Currently، the architectural design، feasibility studies، financial models، and necessary documentation are being finalized. Potential sites for the center، such as the Ekibastuz HPP valley، are being considered for their suitability for complex technological projects.
