Kazakhstan to Gradually Raise Women's Retirement Age to 63

Kazakhstan is continuing its plan to gradually raise the retirement age for women، with the ultimate goal of reaching 63 years old. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to ensure the long-term sustainability of the nation's pension system and align retirement ages between genders.

Phased Increase to Retirement Parity

Victoria Shegay، Vice Minister of Labor and Social Protection، confirmed that the phased increase in retirement age for women will proceed as planned. This measure is intended to equalize the retirement age with that of men and contribute to higher pension payouts.

While the increase was previously paused، current legislation dictates that this process will continue in stages. By the year 2031، women's retirement age is expected to reach 63، matching the age for men.

Ensuring Pension System Stability

Vice Minister Shegay highlighted that extending the working years will positively impact future pension amounts. The longer individuals participate in the funded pension system، the higher their eventual retirement benefits are likely to be.

Support for Older Women in the Workforce

Alongside the retirement age adjustments، Kazakhstan is strengthening support measures for older women seeking employment. The "Silver Age" program، for instance، offers wage subsidies to employers، encouraging them to hire experienced workers.

Furthermore، programs focused on retraining and skills enhancement are available. The government is not currently considering an extension of the moratorium on raising the retirement age beyond 2028.
