Police in the Altai district of East Kazakhstan have pinpointed a settlement with the highest consumption of alcoholic beverages، identifying Zubovsk settlement as the area with the most alcohol-related offenses.

The head of the Altai district police department، Denis Yerimbetov، stated that alcohol is frequently the root cause of criminal activity. He noted that individuals under the influence often lose control، leading to aggressive behavior and subsequent offenses.

Illegal Alcohol Sales Uncovered

During their operations، law enforcement also discovered instances of illegal alcohol sales، including sales without proper licensing and even from private residences. A total of 24 violations were recorded for breaking sales regulations، with an additional 24 offenses related to unlicensed selling.

Altai District's Persistent Alcohol Challenge

The Altai district has historically been identified as one of the regions with a high level of alcohol consumption within the province. Zubovsk settlement، in particular، stands out among rural communities for its elevated drinking rates.

Positive Developments in Sobriety Initiatives

Despite the challenges، there are also signs of progress. Yermakovka village officially renounced alcohol at the beginning of 2025 and has maintained its status as an "alcohol-free village." Notably، no offenses were registered in this village last year. Furthermore، in 2026، the settlement of Seleznyovka، with its population of 74، joined the "Healthy Village" movement.

Rehabilitation and Prevention Efforts

Police emphasized their continuous work with individuals struggling with alcohol abuse. Those identified are often taken to temporary adaptation and detoxification centers for medical evaluation. In 2025، over three thousand individuals passed through these facilities. Additionally، court decisions led to 16 residents being sent for mandatory treatment for alcohol dependency.
