Kazakhstan Woman Returns Home a Month After Being Declared Dead
An astonishing turn of events has unfolded in Kazakhstan's Zhambyl region، where a woman، presumed dead and even issued a death certificate، has returned home alive and well a month later. The regional court confirmed the unbelievable situation.
Disappearance and Mistaken Identity
The woman، born in 1953، had moved to Taraz to live with her sister in August 2024. Following the Kurban Ait holiday، she disappeared without a trace. Her sister promptly reported her missing to the police.
In August 2025، a body was discovered in a field near a village. A criminal case was initiated based on this discovery. The grieving sister and her son identified the remains as their deceased relative، leading to the registration of a death record and the issuance of a death certificate.
The Woman's Return and Legal Battle
Just one month later، in September 2025، the woman unexpectedly reappeared at her uncle's house in the village of Kostobe، Zhambyl district. To rectify the legal status and clear her name، her daughter filed a lawsuit to have the death record declared invalid.
The woman explained that after Kurban Ait، she had traveled to the village of Aisha Bibi، stayed with a local resident، and found work harvesting onions. She only learned of her supposed death upon returning to Taraz when her pension payments stopped arriving.
Her daughter noted that the woman has a history of leaving for extended periods to visit relatives or travel.
Forensic Analysis and Court Ruling
The Zhambyl District Court determined that the body found in the field belonged to an unrelated individual. Authorities exhumed the body and conducted new forensic and genetic examinations. The results conclusively identified the deceased as someone else.
Consequently، the criminal case concerning the death was closed. The court ruled in favor of the daughter، invalidating the death certificate and expunging the death record. The decision has now entered into legal force.
