Kazakhstan's Most Popular Toll Roads Revealed: Millions of Annual Trips
Kazakhstan's Ministry of Transport has identified the nation's busiest toll roads، revealing that citizens undertake approximately 74 million trips on these routes each year. This significant volume of travel highlights the critical role of these highways in the country's transportation network.
Key Traffic Hotspots Identified
While traffic is spread across the network، a substantial portion of these journeys is concentrated on a few key routes. The Ministry's data points to specific corridors experiencing the highest vehicle movement. For instance، the road connecting the capital city، Astana، to the northern region sees a considerable amount of traffic. Specifically، the Astana – Shchuchinsk route accounts for 10.5 million trips annually.
Other highly trafficked segments include the Kokshetau – Petropavlovsk road، which sees 3.2 million trips، and the Kokshetau – Astana route، also with 3.2 million trips. Further south، the Kokshetau – Nur-Sultan highway records 3.2 million trips، and the Qonaev – Taldykorgan route experiences 3.9 million trips annually، underscoring their importance for regional connectivity.
Expansion of Paid Road Network Planned
Looking ahead، the Ministry plans to introduce six more road sections into the paid toll system by 2026. These additions are part of an ongoing effort to modernize and maintain the country's infrastructure. The selected roads have either undergone recent repairs or are ready for operation as toll roads following major refurbishment.
Currently، Kazakhstan operates 26 toll road sections، covering a total length of approximately 4،800 kilometers. This expansion aims to improve road quality and manage traffic flow more effectively across the nation.
