The wife of prominent Kazakhstani MMA fighter Shavkat Rakhmonov has denied responsibility in a fatal road accident case. A preliminary hearing was held at the Taraz court regarding the criminal proceedings against Gulayym Rakhmonova.

Defense Arguments

During the court session، Rakhmonova's lawyer requested the case be sent for further investigation. The defense argued that the conducted auto-technical examination did not provide clear answers regarding the accident's causes. The lawyer highlighted that all four wheels of the vehicle were damaged، potentially affecting its controllability and eliminating any chance of avoiding the crash. They also demanded a new comprehensive examination.

Rakhmonova's Plea

Gulayym Rakhmonova herself pleaded not guilty and asked the court for understanding، stating she is experiencing the profound grief of losing loved ones.

Prosecution's Stance

The prosecutor opposed sending the case back for retrial، asserting that Rakhmonova had admitted guilt during the pre-trial investigation and all necessary examinations had been completed. The court deemed the defense's request unfounded at this stage and denied it، though the defense will have the opportunity to raise the issue again during the main trial.

Travel Restrictions

Currently، Rakhmonova is prohibited from leaving the country.

Accident Details

The tragic incident occurred in the summer of 2025 on the Almaty-Ekaterinburg highway، within the Zhambyl region. According to the investigation، Gulayym Rakhmonova was traveling from Karaganda to Almaty with her sister، son، and a friend. The prosecution stated she had been driving all night and، despite fatigue، did not hand over the steering wheel to another driver.

Fatal Outcome

At the 296th kilometer of the road، the Toyota Land Cruiser lost control، hit a barrier، crossed into the oncoming lane، and overturned. As a result of the crash، one woman died at the scene، and another passed away en route to the hospital. Rakhmonova and her son were hospitalized.
