Paralympic Games biathlon gold medalist Yerbol Khamitov has returned to Kazakhstan، arriving at Astana airport to a warm welcome from dozens of supporters. The triumphant athlete was greeted by family، friends، and fellow citizens eager to celebrate his historic victory.

Among those present to honor Khamitov were Kazakhstan's Minister of Tourism and Sport، Yerbol Mirzakhmetov، and the representative of the Paralympic Committee، Bakhyt Saparov. Both expressed their gratitude and pride in the athlete's accomplishments.

Khamitov's Words of Gratitude and Ambition

Addressing the crowd، Khamitov expressed his thanks and recalled his promise to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to proudly represent the nation's flag and hear the national anthem played. He emphasized the significant responsibility of competing for Kazakhstan on the world stage and shared his aspiration to become a world champion.

The athlete also highlighted the crucial support from his team and the excellent training conditions that facilitated his success. He extended special thanks to Anatoly and Sergey، who guided him into Paralympic sports after he lost his legs in 2016.

A Historic Achievement for Kazakhstan

Yerbol Khamitov secured a bronze medal in ski sprint and a gold medal in biathlon at the 2026 Paralympic Games. This remarkable achievement makes him the first Kazakhstani athlete to win multiple medals in the history of the Winter Paralympic Games. His gold medal in para biathlon marks a first for Kazakhstan in Paralympic history.

Khamitov's athletic journey began in childhood. Despite losing his legs at the age of 19، he continued his passion for sports. He became a medalist in the Kazakhstan Cup in grappling in 2017. His success continued in 2023 when he became the world champion in para cross-country skiing، and in 2025، he achieved another milestone as the first Kazakhstani to win gold at the World Para Biathlon Championships.
