Kazakhstan is moving the choice of "beautiful" license plates online: an eGov mobile app feature to select and pay for vanity and mirror numbers is due to launch this week، a step officials say will ease long queues at specialized public service centers.

What is changing

First Vice Minister of the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Rostislav Konyashkin said the eGov mobile app will allow drivers to remotely choose premium ("beautiful") and mirror plates. The goal is to reduce the load on specialized public service centers and speed up processing.

Why the queues grew

Speaking at a government briefing on 6 January، Konyashkin noted two factors behind the recent lines: holiday closures of service centers and the imminent launch of the new digital service. Around 11،000 applications were filed across the country in recent days. The ministry has added operators and reallocated resources to stabilize demand، and operations are returning to normal.

When the online option goes live

The "online selection" function is scheduled to appear in the eGov mobile app this week. In parallel، the state corporation Government for Citizens will introduce a complementary digital service، which is expected to disperse demand and improve access nationwide.

Price and rules

From 1 January 2026، car owners will be able to choose specific letter-and-number combinations for their state registration plates. The service will cost 10 MCI (43،250 tenge at current rates). Examples of available formats include 123AZA01، 321ERA02، and 069ARA03.

However، elite series such as 001، 002، 212، 333، and 777، as well as uniform letter sequences، are excluded from this category and will continue to be issued under separate rules.

What to expect

Officials say the shift online will reduce the human factor and ensure equal access across regions. Technical capacity and staffing have been reinforced to handle incoming requests as the service scales.
