Renowned Kazakh Scientist Aisultan Kalybayev، Pioneer in Space Research، Dies at 80

The scientific community in Kazakhstan is in mourning following the passing of Aisultan Kalybayev، a distinguished academician and prominent figure in physics. He died in Almaty at the age of 80.

A Legacy in Space Exploration

Aisultan Abdululy Kalybayev's name is closely linked with Kazakhstan's achievements in space research. In the mid-1990s، he led the National Aerospace Agency of Kazakhstan. Under his leadership، he directly oversaw the orbital missions of Kazakh cosmonaut Talgat Musabayev، who flew into space twice.

Contributions to Science and Innovation

Beyond space exploration، Academician Kalybayev made significant contributions to mathematics، nanotechnology، and the defense industry. His prolific career yielded over 100 scientific works and 30 patents، including international ones. His expertise was recognized globally، earning him honorary professorships at numerous leading universities.

Academic Journey and Research Focus

Kalybayev graduated from the Faculty of Physics at Kazakh National University، specializing in celestial mechanics and space flight dynamics. He defended his first dissertation in 1979، focusing on the Earth's polar motion. During the 1980s، his research delved into enhancing the efficiency of rocket engines and other powerful propulsion systems.

Remembering a Visionary Scientist

Colleagues، friends، and collaborators gathered to bid farewell to Academician Kalybayev. Kzrymbek Kosherbayev، a prominent state and public figure، noted that many of Kalybayev's works during the Soviet era were classified due to their dual military-industrial applications. However، after Kazakhstan gained independence، Kalybayev dedicated all his efforts to his homeland.

Tynysbek Kalmenov، Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences and academician، remembered Kalybayev as someone who constantly sought innovation and pursued significant scientific endeavors. "He had many articles، books، and students. He was a specialist of a very high caliber،" Kalmenov stated.

Kalybayev's talent also extended to applied physics، particularly in the oil extraction sector. He developed and implemented methods to increase oil production and technologies for cold molecular aggregation of petroleum products.
