Russia Extradites Suspected Fraudster to Kazakhstan After Instagram Scam
Russia has extradited an individual suspected of being part of an organized crime group to Kazakhstan. The suspect is accused of large-scale fraud، according to the Prosecutor General's Office.
Instagram Investment Scam Uncovered
Authorities report that between 2023 and 2024، the suspect، along with other criminals، allegedly defrauded citizens via Instagram. They enticed victims with promises of high returns on investments، encouraging them to deposit money into a company account.
Once the funds were received، the money was reportedly distributed among group members and used for personal expenses. Investigations revealed that 75 individuals from various regions of Kazakhstan suffered financial losses totaling approximately 80 million tenge due to this scheme.
Criminals Sentenced، One Apprehended
Four other members of the criminal group have already been convicted and sentenced to various prison terms. The latest member had fled to Russia and was subsequently placed on an international wanted list.
In March 2025، the suspect was apprehended in Russia. Following a request from the Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan، he was extradited to his home country. He is currently being held in a pre-trial detention center.
If convicted، the suspect faces a prison sentence ranging from 5 to 10 years، along with the confiscation of his property.
