Russia Tightens Customs Controls on Goods from EAEU Nations
Russia is significantly strengthening its customs controls on goods originating from Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member countries، implementing measures aimed at safeguarding its domestic market. This initiative seeks to curb illegal imports that pose a competitive threat to local manufacturers.
Protecting the Domestic Market
According to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk، the open customs borders within the EAEU have inadvertently facilitated the entry of illicit goods، creating challenges for Russian producers. In response، Russia has announced the adoption of stringent measures to rectify this situation.
Under the new system، importers will be required to provide documentary proof for transactions conducted with EAEU member states. Starting in September 2025، the Federal Customs Service of Russia has been instructed to intensify monitoring by mobile units along the Russian-Belarusian and Russian-Kazakhstani borders. These enhanced controls are intended to be a permanent fixture، not a temporary measure.
Combating Illegal Imports
Last year alone، over 9،000 vehicles were identified transporting more than 137،000 tons of goods in violation of regulations. Russia is also addressing the issue of "grey" certificates issued without proper expertise in other EAEU countries. State control and Rosaccreditation bodies will be empowered to invalidate such certificates.
Alexey Overchuk highlighted that illicit products are being observed entering the platforms of Russia's partners، posing a risk to both Russian manufacturers and consumers. Since February 11th، electronic tracking seals have been introduced in EAEU countries. This system is designed to restrict the circulation of non-compliant goods within the country.
