Tiger Attacks Keeper in Germany، Later Shot by Police
A dramatic incident unfolded in Leipzig، Germany، when a tiger escaped its enclosure and attacked its caretaker، a 73-year-old man assisting with the animal's care. The man sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
The powerful feline managed to evade capture for approximately half an hour، traveling about 300 meters from its enclosure before police arrived at the scene. Authorities made the difficult decision to shoot and kill the animal.
The "Queen of Tigers" and Her Difficulties
The owner of the deceased tiger is reportedly Carmen Zander، a renowned animal trainer also known by the moniker "Queen of Tigers." Zander was keeping ten wild cats in cramped conditions within an industrial area. However، since 2022، she has been prohibited from exhibiting her animals for commercial purposes.
Financial Struggles Impact Animal Welfare
Zander previously toured Europe، gaining popularity for her performances with wild animals. As circuses increasingly moved away from featuring wild animal acts، her bookings became less frequent. Authorities have been demanding that Zander provide living conditions for the animals comparable to those in zoos، but her current facilities do not meet these standards.
Recently، Zander faced legal action for violating the ban on animal performances. She cited financial pressures as the reason for her actions، noting that the animals' food alone costs around 4،500 euros per month. Adding to her financial strain، six more tiger cubs were born in early 2025.
This incident highlights the complex challenges faced by individuals working with exotic animals، balancing animal welfare، financial viability، and public safety.
