Turkey's National Intelligence Organization (MİT) has successfully dismantled an international espionage network that was compromising the nation's interests. The operation، revealed by Turkish security sources، targeted a group simultaneously working for two different foreign intelligence agencies.

Coordinated Operation Leads to Arrests

In a coordinated investigation with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and regional anti-terrorism police units، MİT forces conducted simultaneous raids across four Turkish provinces. The operation resulted in the apprehension of seven suspects، including the alleged leader of the espionage ring، identified as B.E. Additionally، two other members of the network were already in custody for unrelated criminal charges.

Espionage Activities Exposed

The seven arrested individuals have been formally charged with espionage and subsequently detained by court order. Investigations revealed that the agents were actively collecting sensitive information on non-governmental organizations، various associations، ethnic groups، and government employees within Turkey. This intelligence was then reportedly transmitted to their foreign handlers.

Intelligence Gathering Methods and Network Structure Revealed

The activities of B.E. and his associates were under close surveillance by Turkish intelligence services، employing methods such as external observation، cyber monitoring، and technical eavesdropping. The operation not only uncovered communication channels، methods for receiving instructions، and the network's funding schemes but also shed light on the internal structure and strategic objectives of the foreign intelligence organizations operating in Turkey.

Ongoing Efforts Against Foreign Espionage

This recent operation is part of a broader، ongoing effort by Turkish intelligence to expose foreign espionage networks that have become active amidst regional instability. In recent years، Turkish intelligence services have been actively combating illicit agent networks. Previously، clandestine groups utilizing local private investigators to monitor Palestinian activists on behalf of Israel's Mossad intelligence agency were dismantled. In early 2026، similar raids in Ankara and Istanbul led to the arrest of six individuals who were gathering information on military facilities and the İncirlik airbase for Iran's special services.
