Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that a primary objective of an upcoming meeting with the United States is to prepare for the resumption of trilateral negotiations aimed at ending the conflict with Russia.

Key Objectives for Renewed Talks

Zelensky emphasized the importance of defining concrete parameters for extending these trilateral discussions. "Their main task is to determine the specific parameters for extending the trilateral meetings. The second is preparation for relevant meetings، drafting documents،" he told journalists.

Previous attempts to continue talks between the US، Ukraine، and Russia have been postponed multiple times، partly due to the war in Iran. President Zelensky expressed Ukraine's desire to restart these negotiations and establish specific dates.

"We want more clarity،" the Ukrainian leader added، highlighting a need for concrete progress and timelines.

Discussions on Arms and Drone Technology

During the Ukrainian delegation's visit to the US، discussions will also cover the continuation of the PURL (Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List) program. Through this initiative، NATO partners procure American-made weaponry for Ukraine's needs، including crucial components like missiles for Patriot air defense systems.

Furthermore، Zelensky indicated that the delegation would address a "drone agreement" with their American counterparts. This proposed deal would involve Ukraine sharing its drone defense technology with the US in exchange for financial support and much-needed anti-missile defense systems.

Sanctions on Russia and Future Security

Kyiv stressed the necessity of continued dialogue with Washington، particularly in light of a recent US administration decision regarding the lifting of sanctions on Russian oil. Zelensky believes this move poses significant risks.

"This represents all the risks for us، leading to an increase in money for Russia and an increase in their capabilities on the front line. This is dangerous، which is why I think our meeting is also important،" he stated.

The negotiations are also expected to advance work on bilateral documents concerning the future conclusion of the war، including security guarantees and the reconstruction of Ukraine.

Earlier، Zelensky had announced the next phase of negotiations to end the war، though representatives from the Russian side were not initially slated to participate in that specific meeting.

On March 13، the Ukrainian President had previously highlighted differing stances between Washington and Moscow regarding the timing and location of future trilateral talks involving Ukraine، the US، and Russia. Zelensky mentioned that the Ukrainian delegation was prepared to fly to Miami or Washington، but the Russian side had not agreed، proposing Turkey or Switzerland instead. However، the US reportedly rejected these options due to security concerns.
