Almaty Cracks Down on Water Waste: Car Washes، Baths Under Scrutiny
Almaty has initiated a sweeping inspection campaign targeting businesses that consume significant amounts of water، including car washes، bathhouses، restaurants، and industrial facilities. The primary goal is to identify and curb water theft and inefficient usage، ensuring better conservation of the city's vital water resources.
Systematic Checks Underway
Specialists from "Almaty Su" State Communal Enterprise are meticulously examining adherence to water supply and sewage regulations. A key focus is on detecting unauthorized water connections، tampering with water meters، and instances of underreporting water consumption. The technical condition of existing engineering networks is also being assessed.
Targeting High-Consumption Businesses
Businesses identified as major water consumers are under particular scrutiny. This includes car washes، bathhouses، restaurants، shopping centers، and industrial plants. For these establishments، the implementation of water recycling systems and local treatment facilities is considered mandatory.
Initial Findings Reveal Widespread Violations
In the initial weeks of the campaign، over 100 violations have already been identified. These range from unauthorized connections to existing engineering networks to non-compliance with water usage regulations. Offenders face consequences including recalculated water charges، service restrictions، or complete suspension of services.
Progress and New Regulations
Since the beginning of the year، 29 car washes have installed their first water recycling systems. Additionally، 78 facilities have transitioned from domestic to commercial water tariffs، reflecting more accurate usage. Over 20 instances of unauthorized connections to engineering networks were also discovered.
These intensified checks align with the new Water Code of Kazakhstan، which came into effect in July 2025، emphasizing more rational use of natural resources. Addressing the water consumption patterns of major facilities is a key priority under the new legislation.
