A substantial mudflow swept through the Bostandyk district of Almaty on the evening of April 16th، causing damage to several homes. Fortunately، no casualties have been reported.

The incident occurred in the 'Remizovka' gardening partnership area. Following reports to the Department of Emergency Situations، rescuers and specialists were immediately dispatched to the scene. Investigations revealed that heavy rainfall had oversaturated the soil، leading to the movement of approximately 300 cubic meters of earth.

Impact and Response

The mudflow's force damaged the roofs of several houses. Thankfully، no injuries were recorded. Around 40 personnel and 10 units of equipment were mobilized to manage the situation at the site. A commission is currently conducting a thorough assessment، and officers from the Department of Emergency Situations and the police are maintaining a presence in the area.

Preventative Measures Advised

To prevent future mudflow risks، the Almaty Department of Emergency Situations has issued several recommendations to residents. These include proper maintenance of septic tanks and pits، monitoring the condition of water pipes and drainage systems، preventing water accumulation in the area، and ensuring timely diversion of rainwater. These measures are crucial for mitigating soil movement and reducing the likelihood of emergencies.
