Atyrau Family Tragedy: New Charges for Son-in-Law، Wife Undergoes Psychiatric Evaluation

New details have emerged in the ongoing investigation into the tragic deaths of the Karabalins family in the Zhygeldi village of Atyrau region. The primary suspect، 29-year-old Sultan Sarsemaliyev، faces additional charges as the case expands beyond the initial homicide investigation.

Expanded Charges Against Suspect

Initially، the case was being investigated under Article 99، Part 2، Clause 1 of the Criminal Code، pertaining to the murder of two or more individuals. However، during the investigation، evidence surfaced indicating the sale of the victims' livestock and the appropriation of their property. Consequently، separate criminal cases have been initiated under Article 188 ("Theft") and Article 190 ("Fraud") of the Criminal Code. This signifies the addition of a third fraud-related episode to the ongoing investigation.

Wife Sent for Psychiatric Evaluation

According to the supervisory authority، the actions of the suspect's wife، Akbayan Mukhangaliyeva، the daughter of the deceased، have not yet been legally assessed، and no preventive measures have been taken against her. If psychological abnormalities are identified، the issue of appointing a stationary comprehensive examination at the Institute of Forensic Examinations in Almaty will be considered. She has been sent to a medical facility for a forensic psychological-psychiatric evaluation.

Investigation Continues

The Prosecutor's Office stated that a final legal assessment of the suspects' actions will be made once all circumstances are clarified and the examination results are obtained. The timeline for the investigation's completion will depend on the scope of the ongoing examinations and investigative actions.

As a reminder، the bodies of Maksot Karabalin and Nasipa Oteshkalieva were discovered on January 6th beneath a farm structure. Later، during the search for missing children، the bodies of two more individuals، Miramgul Karabalina and Nauryz Mukhangaliyev، were found. Sultan Sarsemaliyev، identified as the suspect، was apprehended in Indonesia and subsequently extradited to Kazakhstan.
