Central Asia and Azerbaijan Forge Green Energy Corridor to Europe

Kazakhstan، Uzbekistan، and Azerbaijan are set to become key players in Europe's green energy transition through a groundbreaking partnership. The parliaments have ratified a strategic agreement focused on developing and transporting clean energy، paving the way for a significant "energy corridor" across the Caspian Sea.

A New Route Across the Caspian

This ambitious project aims to lay a high-voltage، deep-sea direct current cable across the Caspian Sea. The initiative، signed by the leaders of the three nations، is considered one of the most extensive energy ventures in Kazakhstan's independent history. It will provide a direct link for Kazakhstan to the European Union's electricity market، potentially via a similar project in the Black Sea.

International Backing and Investment

The technical and economic feasibility study for this monumental undertaking is currently being prepared by the Italian international consulting firm CESI. The project's initial cost is estimated at 1 million euros، with funding provided as grants by the Asian Development Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. These institutions have also confirmed their readiness to allocate up to $2 million for the project's support.

Coordinated Efforts for a Green Future

To streamline expert collaboration، a joint venture named the Green Corridor Alliance was established in July of last year. This alliance brings together specialists from all three participating countries، ensuring coordinated efforts towards realizing this vital green energy initiative.

This initiative promises to not only bolster energy security but also significantly contribute to reducing carbon emissions across the continent.
