Professional chess، often perceived as an accessible game، demands a surprisingly high level of financial commitment، according to one of the world's top players. Three-time world champion Bibisara Assaubayeva has shed light on the substantial expenses involved in her rigorous training regimen، highlighting that chess is far from a low-cost sport.

The Price of a Top Coach

Assaubayeva's training schedule includes six intensive training camps annually، each lasting ten days. The cost for her personal coach alone is a significant factor. A single day of coaching is priced at 1،000 euros، which translates to approximately 587،700 Kazakhstani Tenge.

"People outside the chess world think this sport is cheap،" Assaubayeva explained. "We don't have large prize funds like tennis، golf، or boxing، but the expenses are very high. My personal coach receives 1،000 euros per day. This doesn't even include flight tickets or accommodation costs."

Based on this daily rate، the annual expenditure solely for her coach amounts to around 60،000 euros، or roughly 35.2 million Tenge.

A Team of Eleven Experts

Beyond the head coach، Assaubayeva's support system is extensive، comprising a team of 11 specialists. This dedicated group includes main coaches، sparring partners، and experts focusing on specific aspects of the game like openings، endgames، and middlegames.

"Everything depends on your level،" the chess prodigy noted. "Since I have earned the right to participate in tournaments، the preparation becomes much more complex. Currently، my team has 11 people. Each of them contributes their expertise، so the expenses are substantial."

Assaubayeva secured her spot in a prestigious tournament through her victory at the World Blitz Chess Championship. This upcoming event is scheduled to take place between March 28 and April 16، with the winner earning the right to challenge for the classical World Chess Championship title.
