Kazakh MP Proposes Layoffs at QazaqGaz to Fund Gasification Projects
Member of Parliament Yerlan Sairov has voiced significant concerns regarding the operational efficiency of the national company QazaqGaz. He proposed a substantial reduction in its workforce، suggesting the dismissal of approximately 10،000 employees. The funds saved from these layoffs، Sairov argued، should be redirected to accelerate gasification projects across various regions of Kazakhstan.
Addressing Regional Gas Needs
Sairov highlighted the stark reality that many citizens in North Kazakhstan، Pavlodar، Abai، and East Kazakhstan regions still rely on coal and firewood for heating their homes in the 21st century. He described this situation as "a disgrace،" emphasizing the urgent need for natural gas access.
Criticism of Ministry's Approach
The MP expressed dissatisfaction with the response from Energy Vice-Minister Kairzhan Tutkushbayev. While the ministry prioritizes expanding resource bases، geological exploration، and constructing new plants، Sairov pointed out that the fundamental issue of gasifying rural areas remains unresolved.
Prioritizing Public Funds
"We need to dismiss those who are idle and direct their salaries towards bringing gas to the villages. This is the people's money، so every step should be aimed at improving the well-being of the population،" stated Yerlan Sairov. He believes that the company's annual production of around 350 million cubic meters of gas is not being utilized effectively، raising questions about its overall performance.
This call for efficiency echoes sentiments previously expressed by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev، who also noted the presence of underperforming employees in national companies like Samruk-Kazyna.
