Kazakhstan Builds New Railway to Boost Asia-Europe Transit

Kazakhstan is undertaking a major infrastructure project، the construction of the new Moyinty-Kyzylzhar railway line، aiming to bolster its position as a crucial transit hub between Asia and Europe. This ambitious endeavor is poised to reshape regional logistics and significantly increase the country's transit potential.

A Vital Link in the Trans-Caspian Route

Spanning over 300 kilometers، the new railway will serve as a critical segment of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. The project is currently in an active construction phase، involving more than 300 specialists and over 670 pieces of equipment. Work is progressing simultaneously across multiple sections، encompassing everything from earthmoving and track laying to bridge construction.

Strategic Importance for Regional Logistics

The new line will connect the Moyinty and Kyzylzhar stations، passing through the Karaganda and Ulytau regions. This strategic infrastructure is expected to fundamentally alter regional logistics. Once operational، it will shorten freight transport distances by 149 kilometers، leading to reduced delivery times، fuel savings، and faster wagon turnaround. This enhancement will boost the competitiveness of transit through Kazakhstan.

Furthermore، this new artery will alleviate congestion on the existing Moyinty-Zharyk section، which currently handles a high volume of freight، including container trains on international routes. The project effectively adds a vital transportation corridor، increasing the overall capacity of Kazakhstan's railway network.

Prioritizing the Trans-Caspian Corridor

The Moyinty-Kyzylzhar project is intrinsically linked to the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route، often referred to as the "Middle Corridor." In recent years، this route has seen a surge in demand due to shifts in global logistics. This presents Kazakhstan with a significant opportunity to solidify its role as a transit bridge connecting China، Central Asia، the Caucasus، and Europe.

Experts emphasize that countries investing in transport corridors today will attract future transit revenues، new industries، and logistics centers. Therefore، the construction of the Moyinty-Kyzylzhar line is considered a cornerstone project for modernizing the nation's transport infrastructure.

Progress and Economic Impact

As of now، over 90 percent of the main earthworks have been completed، marking a significant milestone given the challenging climate and the route's length. Approximately 40 percent of the rail-and-sleeper track laying is finished. Construction of artificial structures، including bridges، overpasses، culverts، and animal crossings، is also advancing، with over 65 percent completion. More than ten subcontracting organizations are involved، with round-the-clock operations underscoring the project's momentum and commitment to timely completion. The railway line is slated for commissioning within the current year.

The economic benefits extend beyond transit. The new railway will create jobs، foster regional development، and stimulate economic activity. It promises faster and more predictable deliveries for businesses، opening new avenues for exporters to access international markets. For the country، it reinforces its status as a major logistics hub in Central Asia. Kazakhstan's consistent prioritization of transport infrastructure reflects a global trend where countries facilitating the flow of goods and trade gain a competitive edge.
