Kazakhstan has conducted a sweeping operation against human trafficking، exposing a range of criminal activities from the sale of infants to the operation of illegal webcam studios and organized crime syndicates. The Ministry of Internal Affairs announced the results of the nationwide "STOP Traffic" initiative، which brought to light numerous offenses.
Nationwide Crackdown Uncovers 41 Human Trafficking Offenses
During the "STOP Traffic" operation، which took place in April، authorities registered a total of 41 crimes related to human trafficking. Disturbingly، nine of these cases involved minors، highlighting the vulnerability of young people to exploitation.
Infant Trafficking Ring Dismantled in Kyzylorda Region
In a particularly grim discovery، law enforcement in the Kyzylorda region uncovered a scheme involving the sale of a newborn baby. A 25-year-old woman reportedly abandoned her child after birth. The head of a special foundation then acted as an intermediary، attempting to sell the infant for one million tenge to a 50-year-old local resident under the guise of adoption. All three individuals involved have been detained.
Organized Crime Exploits Homeless in Almaty
In Almaty، an organized criminal group has been targeted for their involvement in human trafficking and exploitation for criminal purposes. Investigators revealed that the group lured individuals with no fixed address، registered loans and purchased vehicles in their names، and then resold the cars. This operation targeted vulnerable populations for financial gain.
Teenagers Rescued from Forced Labor in Zhetysu Region
Authorities in the Zhetysu region successfully intervened in a case where two teenagers، born in 2005 and 2007، were being subjected to forced labor. The youths were kidnapped، held captive، and compelled to work in a household chemical production facility. The suspects have been apprehended، and the victims received necessary medical assistance.
Webcam Studios and Youth Exploitation Revealed
A married couple in the Abai region was arrested for organizing a network of webcam studios. They were involved in recruiting young women and facilitating the production of pornographic materials. Furthermore، 20 criminal cases related to the seduction of youth were initiated across various regions of the country. These include 15 cases involving the transmission of HIV and 5 cases related to the distribution of pornography.
