Kazakhstan suspends 1،787 driver’s licenses over health risks after 370k checks
Kazakhstan has suspended 1،787 driver’s licenses on medical grounds after a nationwide review matched health and traffic databases—an effort officials say is aimed at reducing crash risk and improving road safety.
This was reported by the Infohub.kz news agency.
Why it matters
Driving with medical conditions that impair alertness or control increases the likelihood of accidents. The review targets such risks to protect all road users while keeping the process within legal due‑process standards.
How the review worked
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the Ministry of Health compared their databases to identify motorists registered for ongoing medical supervision. Each potential case was evaluated individually، and licensing decisions were made by the courts based on medical conclusions and legal norms.
What the data shows
According to the Health Ministry، approximately 370،000 people under medical supervision were checked. Of these، 273،800 did not have a driver’s license. Another 96،000 had previously held a license: 41،700 of those had already expired، while 54،400 were still valid at the time of review.
By December 10، 2025، authorities had filed 4،540 court claims. Court rulings led to 1،787 licenses being suspended due to medical contraindications.
What drivers should know
Motorists are urged to undergo timely medical examinations and update records if their health status changes or a new diagnosis is made. Officials note that future eligibility can be reassessed if medical conditions improve and legal criteria are met.
