Kazakhstan's New 5-Star Issyk-Kul Sanatorium Set to Open in November
A significant upgrade to a beloved resort destination is nearing completion، with Kazakhstan's "Kazakhstan" sanatorium on the shores of Issyk-Kul slated for a November opening. The medical facility، managed by the Medical Center of the President's Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan، has undergone extensive renovations to transform it into a modern، multi-profile health and wellness complex.
A Historic Resort Reimagined
Originally opened in 1962، the sanatorium، situated on approximately 17.5 hectares، is being revitalized to offer year-round services. The revamped facility will accommodate up to 180 tourists at a time، providing a range of accommodation options including rooms in the main building and private cottages.
Comprehensive Wellness and Employment Opportunities
The renovated complex will offer a variety of medical services، though specific treatments are detailed in the original report. Beyond its healthcare offerings، the project is expected to create approximately 260 jobs upon completion، with a focus on hiring local residents.
Preserving a Legacy
A notable aspect of the renovation is the preservation of a former dacha that belonged to Dinmukhamed Kunaev، the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan. This historic site is being restored and is planned to become a house-museum، adding a layer of historical significance to the modern wellness center.
Investment and Bilateral Agreements
While Kazakhstan initially planned to renovate four hotels in Issyk-Kul، funding has only been secured for the "Kazakhstan" sanatorium، with an allocation of 9 billion tenge. Investment for other facilities will be sought from private investors. This development follows a legal framework established through agreements between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan regarding resort properties. In May 2025، Kyrgyzstan's President Sadyr Japarov signed a law concerning land lease agreements in the Issyk-Kul region. Further solidifying these arrangements، the Parliament of Kazakhstan ratified a land lease agreement with Kyrgyzstan in December 2025، clarifying Kazakhstan's commitments to renovating and improving facilities on leased land.
