Kazakhstan's Unified National Testing Begins: Key Details for Applicants

The main phase of Kazakhstan's Unified National Testing (UNT) commenced on May 10th، marking a crucial step for hundreds of thousands of aspiring university students. The exams will continue until July 10th.

This year، approximately 240،000 applicants have registered for the UNT. Considering the option to retake the exam، over 446،000 applications have been processed. The majority of tests، 74%، will be conducted in Kazakh، with 26% in Russian، and 851 applicants opting for English.

Exam Day Logistics

Applicants had the flexibility to choose their preferred date and time for the examination. On the first day alone، 926 individuals nationwide، including 359 in Astana، are scheduled to take the test. The UNT is being administered across 45 testing centers.

Most Popular Subject Combinations

The most sought-after subject combination among applicants is 'Mathematics-Physics،' chosen by 17.9% of students. This indicates a strong interest in future careers in engineering، education، energy، and other technical fields.

Following closely are 'Biology-Chemistry' combinations، selected by 14.5% of applicants، and 'Creative Exams' at 12.4%. These choices point towards aspirations in healthcare and creative industries.

UNT Format and Scoring

The UNT format will remain consistent through 2026. Students will answer 120 questions across three mandatory subjects and two elective subjects. Specifically، there will be 20 questions on 'History of Kazakhstan،' 10 each on 'Reading Literacy' and 'Mathematical Literacy،' and 40 questions for each of the two chosen profile subjects. The maximum possible score on the UNT is 140 points.

The allotted time for the test is 4 hours (240 minutes). Students with special educational needs will receive an additional 40 minutes.

Appeals Process

Applicants have a 30-minute window after completing the test to submit an appeal. Once the appeals committee makes a decision، the certificate will become available in the applicant's personal account.

Passing Scores

The minimum passing score for admission to national universities is 65 points، while for other universities، it is 50 points. Specific fields have higher thresholds: 75 points for pedagogical sciences، 70 points for healthcare، and 75 points for law programs.

Additionally، applicants must score at least 5 points in 'History of Kazakhstan' and the two profile subjects، and a minimum of 3 points in 'Reading Literacy' and 'Mathematical Literacy'. Universities also have the discretion to set their own minimum passing scores for different educational program groups.

Security Measures

To ensure exam integrity and prevent violations، metal detectors are in use. Audiences are equipped with signal jammers for mobile and radio electronic communications، and video surveillance is in place. Video recordings will be analyzed after the exam. Any instances of prohibited item usage or rule violations will result in the cancellation of the applicant's UNT results.
