As of May 1، 2026، only 57 veterans of the Great Patriotic War remain in Kazakhstan. To commemorate the 81st anniversary of Victory Day، each veteran received a payment of 5 million tenge.

Declining Numbers of Veterans

The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection has reported a significant decrease in the number of Great Patriotic War veterans in Kazakhstan. In the last five years، their numbers have dropped by nearly sevenfold. While 381 veterans were alive on May 1، 2022، this figure has fallen to just 57 as of May 1، 2026.

Home Front Workers and Other Categories

In addition to veterans، the ministry's data indicates that as of May 1، 2026، there were 31،349 home front workers who contributed during the Great Patriotic War years. The ministry also provided information on citizens equated to war veterans، including those who worked in enterprises، transport، and communications during the war، as well as individuals awarded for their wartime labor.

Support and Benefits for Veterans

Veterans and those equated to them receive a range of support measures. These include special state allowances، social assistance in cash or kind، priority in housing provision، land allocation for private construction، and preferential medical services. They are also entitled to free prosthetic and orthopedic devices (excluding dental prostheses) and priority access to social services.

Local administrations provide additional support، which may include housing repairs، fuel provision، public transport concessions، medication، and food packages، funded by budget and sponsorship funds. The specific types and amounts of assistance are determined by local maslikhat (council) decisions based on regional needs and budget capabilities.

The Ministry of Labor continues to review the amounts of payments، allowances، and benefits، considering the possibilities of the national budget to further improve social support for veterans.

As of May 1، 2026، the average monthly total social payments، including pensions، were approximately 120،000 tenge for Great Patriotic War veterans. For home front workers، this figure was around 45،000 tenge.

Additionally، by May 9، 2026، local authorities allocated one-time payments. For Great Patriotic War veterans، this amounted to 5 million tenge، while individuals equated to them received 75،000 tenge.
