'No reports، only results': PM Bektenov sets tougher rules after Jan 6 meeting
At a government meeting on 6 January، Kazakhstan's Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov told ministers to drop lengthy presentations and focus on measurable outcomes، signaling a shift to a results-first approach aimed at accelerating reforms and improving public services.
This was reported by the Infohub.kz news agency.
Following the president’s priorities
Bektenov’s message came after President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s wide-ranging interview with Turkistan newspaper، where the head of state outlined priorities including tax reform، tourism development، and road safety. The prime minister instructed central and local bodies to align efforts and move from words to execution.
Specific mandates for key ministries
At the 6 January session، at least three ministries—the Ministry of Agriculture، the Ministry of Tourism and Sports، and the Ministry of Internal Affairs—received targeted assignments. The directives focus on diversifying the economy، improving service quality، and strengthening public safety.
Coordination and clear metrics
Bektenov tasked his deputies with sector-by-sector coordination of the president’s instructions to clarify responsibility and standardize how progress is measured. He also called for prudent، efficient use of budget funds to ensure that spending translates into tangible results.
Blunt message to the cabinet
Delivering a direct warning، the prime minister told colleagues to cut back on paperwork and slide decks: 'Stop with reports and presentations. If there are no results، it is empty talk. If you cannot work in the new format، say so openly؛ we will resolve the issue.'
