Nursultan Nazarbayev Reflects on Grandson Aisultan's Life and Death
Nursultan Nazarbayev، the First President of Kazakhstan، has spoken for the first time in depth about the passing of his grandson، Aisultan Nazarbayev، in the documentary film "Strokes to the Portrait." The film offers a personal look at the life and death of his grandson، a topic that has deeply affected the former leader.
A Cherished Grandson Lost
In the documentary، Nazarbayev spoke of his grandchildren، noting that Aisultan، the son of his daughter Dariga Nazarbayeva and Rakhat Aliyev، passed away in 2020. The former president expressed profound sorrow over Aisultan's premature death، highlighting a striking resemblance between them. "Unfortunately، this year we lost one of my grandsons. He looked very much like me. He passed away earlier than his time،" Nazarbayev shared in the film.
Battles with Addiction and Treatment Efforts
Nazarbayev also touched upon the health challenges and lifestyle difficulties Aisultan faced. He revealed that while the family made extensive efforts to help Aisultan overcome his struggles، they were unable to fully regain control of the situation. Despite undergoing treatment in both Moscow and London، Aisultan could not break free from his addiction. "He could have been kept anywhere. But it was impossible to hold him back. He was a slave to this habit، he couldn't stop. We treated him in Moscow، we treated him in London. He would relapse and return،" Nazarbayev recalled.
Aisultan Nazarbayev's death in 2020 sparked significant public discussion at the time. The documentary "Strokes to the Portrait" is presented as a multi-part project dedicated to Nursultan Nazarbayev's life and career، delving into his personal life، family، political journey، and previously untold memories.
