BTS Returns to Stage: Seoul Concert Shuts Down Metro, Closes Streets
Global K-pop superstars BTS made a triumphant return to the stage in Seoul, marking their first full-group performance in four years. The highly anticipated concert, held at Gwanghwamun Square on March 21st, drew an estimated crowd of over 200,000 fans from around the world.
The seven-member group—RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook—reunited for a free concert titled 'The Comeback Live Arirang'. This event coincided with the release of their fifth album, 'ARIRANG', and the commencement of their world tour.
A Monumental World Tour and Album Release
The group's upcoming world tour is set to be their most extensive yet, with plans to perform in 34 countries. The 'ARIRANG' album release was met with immediate success, with HYBE agency reporting approximately 4 million copies sold on its first day.
Accompanying the album's release, a documentary film chronicling the band's reunion is also available. The live concert itself was broadcast globally by Netflix.
Fan Engagement and Public Safety Measures
While 22,000 ticketed fans occupied the main viewing area, tens of thousands more experienced the performance through large screens set up on nearby streets or via the live stream.
To ensure the safety of the massive crowd, extensive public transport and traffic adjustments were implemented. The metro line from Gwanghwamun Square to City Hall was suspended for over 33 hours, and traffic was restricted on surrounding streets. Authorities also organized special bus services for concert attendees.
Return After Military Service
The concert signifies BTS's full return to the music scene after a hiatus for mandatory military service in South Korea. All members have now completed their service and are back to their creative endeavors.
