Ex-Official Detained Over Alleged Minor Assault in West Kazakhstan

A former local government official in the Shyngyrlau district of West Kazakhstan has been detained on suspicion of assaulting a minor. The incident, which occurred on January 2nd, has sparked a criminal investigation and drawn attention from child rights advocates.

Investigation Details Emerge

Initial reports indicated that a man lured a minor into his home and assaulted her. The West Kazakhstan police department confirmed that a criminal case was initiated under Article 120 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, pertaining to the sexual assault of a minor.

Conflicting Accounts Surface

However, subsequent investigations revealed conflicting information. The police stated that after reviewing correspondence and other evidence, no fact of assault on a minor was established. The 16-year-old girl and her mother reportedly stated they had no complaints against the suspect and described the relationship as consensual. This account was later disputed by the victim's father, who claims the information is not true. Police have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.

Suspect's Background and Detention

The suspect, identified as Zhupilov, previously worked in one of the departments of the Shyngyrlau district administration. He was dismissed from his position after the complaint was filed. The Commissioner for Children's Rights in Kazakhstan, Dinara Zakiyeva, has also commented on the situation.

Court Orders Pre-Trial Detention

The West Kazakhstan Prosecutor's Office reported that the suspect has been detained and placed in a temporary pre-trial detention center. The specialized investigative court of Uralsk sanctioned a two-month period of detention for Zhupilov.
