Father Rescues Family from Rubble After Devastating Explosion in Almaty Region

A powerful explosion has devastated a private home in the village of Ekpindi, Almaty Region, leaving a family injured and hospitalized in serious condition. The incident occurred early in the morning, and the father's bravery was instrumental in rescuing his wife and three sons from the wreckage.

Heroic Rescue Amidst Devastation

The homeowner, Samat Zhaiylkhanov, was in the yard when the explosion occurred around 5:30 AM. He recounted that the blast happened when his son turned on the gas to boil water for tea. The force of the explosion sent the roof flying and walls scattering, followed by a fire.

"I saw everything with my own eyes. The roof flew off, the walls scattered. Then a fire started. I heard my wife screaming and rushed to help. She was under the rubble. I pulled her by the hand. Then the neighbors came and helped pull out the children," Zhaiylkhanov said. He described his second son suffering burns to his face, hands, and legs, while his youngest son sustained facial burns and a broken nose.

Injuries and Medical Response

All victims were promptly taken to the hospital. Doctors confirmed they suffered severe burns, fractures, and traumatic brain injuries. The second son remains in critical condition due to extensive burns on his face, hands, and legs. The youngest also sustained facial burns and a broken nose.

Investigation into Gas Leak

Following the tragedy, the "AlmatyGazServis-Holding" company reported a gas leak in an underground pipeline. However, it remains unconfirmed whether this was the direct cause of the explosion. Erlan Kumashev, chief engineer at "AlmatyGazServis-Holding" JSC, stated, "When we arrived, the cause of the explosion was unclear. There was a gas leak. We didn't know where or how much. Later, we saw bubbles coming out of the ground, indicating a leak from the underground gas pipeline. We immediately called an emergency crew and a tractor to find and eliminate the leak." The company is currently working to replace the damaged section of the pipeline.

Community Support and Aid

The explosion left the Zhaiylkhanov family with only the foundation of their home. In response, villagers have rallied to support the homeless family, and local officials have pledged material assistance. Bakyt Toreev, the akim of the Aksay rural district of Ile district, noted, "Villagers have raised approximately two million tenge. We are also in talks with sponsors. The state will provide guaranteed assistance. For this, the victims must apply within three months. We cannot name the exact amount yet."

The exact cause of the explosion will be determined after relevant expert examinations are completed.
