Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has reported a significant military achievement, claiming to have shot down a fifth-generation F-35 fighter jet belonging to the United States. This marks the first time Iran has publicly announced the downing of such an advanced aircraft since the current conflict escalated.

Iranian Air Defense Claims Success

According to a statement released by the IRGC and reported by Iran's Fars news agency, the F-35 was targeted and brought down early Thursday morning at approximately 02:50 local time. The IRGC stated that their newly developed, advanced air defense system was responsible for the successful interception. They further indicated that the aircraft sustained significant damage.

Iranian military sources specified that the jet was downed over the central part of Iran. While the exact fate of the aircraft remains officially unconfirmed by all parties, Iranian officials suggested a high probability of it crashing, noting this as a historic first for their air defense capabilities in neutralizing such a sophisticated warplane.

Pentagon Confirms Emergency Landing

In response to the reports, a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Defense, the Pentagon, confirmed to RIA Novosti that an American F-35 aircraft had experienced an in-flight emergency while operating over Iran. The aircraft managed to land at a nearby regional air base.

The Pentagon representative assured that the pilot's condition is stable and that an investigation into the incident has been launched. "We are aware of reports concerning a U.S. F-35 aircraft that experienced an in-flight emergency and made an emergency landing at a regional air base after completing a mission over Iran. The aircraft landed safely, and the pilot's condition is stable. An investigation into this incident is underway," the official statement read.

The F-35 is a family of fifth-generation stealth fighter aircraft developed by Lockheed Martin, known for its advanced technology and capabilities.
