Iran Warns US Ships Will Become "Graveyards" in Strait of Hormuz
A high-ranking Iranian military advisor has issued a grave warning to the United States, stating that American troops and ships will be turned into "graveyards" in response to any naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
Mohsen Rezaei, a military advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader and former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, conveyed this message via his social media platform X.
US Labeled a "Pirate Power"
Rezaei characterized the U.S. as the "world's only pirate power," highlighting its aircraft carrier presence. He asserted that Iran's capability to combat "pirates" is no less than its ability to sink warships. He urged the U.S. to prepare for its ships and forces to become "graveyards, similar to the wreckage of aircraft in Isfahan."
Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz
The situation in the Strait of Hormuz has become increasingly tense. According to Bloomberg, commercial vessel traffic through the vital waterway has been significantly hampered, even as the U.S. administration considers Iran's latest peace proposal.
On Saturday, only five ships were recorded passing through, including the Sarv Shakti tanker carrying liquefied gas to India. Experts suggest that inbound traffic has also been minimal. Early Sunday morning, one Iranian cargo ship, two bulk carriers, one tanker, and one gas carrier were noted entering the strait.
Earlier, President Trump had described a potential U.S. blockade of the Strait of Hormuz as "piracy" and a "very profitable business."
Iran's Peace Initiative
This week, Iran submitted a new peace plan to the U.S. through Pakistani intermediaries. The Al Mayadeen television channel reported that Iran proposed a three-stage formula to continue dialogue.
The initial phase includes a ceasefire and security guarantees for Iran and Lebanon. This would be followed by discussions on mechanisms for managing the Strait of Hormuz, and finally, addressing the nuclear program. Progress to the third stage is contingent upon reaching agreements in the first two phases.
Reports indicate that President Trump was not satisfied with this proposal and is considering a long-term blockade of Iran. Alternative options, such as resuming bombing or withdrawing from the conflict, are also reportedly being evaluated.
