Israeli Soldiers Under Scrutiny for Vandalism in Lebanese Village
The Israeli military has launched an investigation into soldiers seen destroying solar panels in the Lebanese village of Debel. This incident follows a previous controversy where an Israeli soldier was filmed damaging a statue of Jesus Christ in the same location.
Destruction of Solar Panels
According to Israel's state broadcaster KAN, the destroyed solar panels were crucial for providing energy to hundreds of residents. Reports indicate that these panels had been left in the village with the army's permission.
Official Military Statement
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released a statement emphasizing that the actions depicted in the video do not align with the army's values or expected conduct. "The incident is under investigation, and disciplinary measures will be taken based on the findings," the statement read.
Previous Incident and Consequences
In the earlier incident involving the statue of Jesus Christ, the soldier responsible was removed from duty and placed under military arrest for 30 days. A colleague who filmed the act received a similar punishment. Additionally, six other soldiers present at the scene but who did not intervene or report the incident were called for disciplinary discussions.
Apology Issued
Israel's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gideon Saar, has issued an apology to "every Christian whose feelings have been hurt" by these events.
