Jetisu school director suspended after 9 teachers file complaints, police investigate

A rural school director in Kazakhstan’s Jetisu Region has been suspended after nine teachers filed formal complaints, prompting a police review and a wider interagency probe—an unusual step that underscores growing scrutiny of governance in local education.

This was reported by the Infohub.kz news agency.

What triggered the probe

The complaints came from staff at a secondary school in Kyzyltoğan village, Koksu district. Posts circulating on social media alleged possible financial misconduct and suggested the director may have a gambling problem—claims that have not been verified.

Those posts also referenced a potential loss of around 9 million tenge and hinted there could be more affected staff who have not come forward. Officials say all such assertions remain allegations pending investigation.

Officials confirm timeline

The Koksu district education department confirmed that nine written complaints were officially registered on December 30, 2025. In line with procedure, the materials were forwarded to the Koksu district police on January 5, 2026.

On the same day—January 5, 2026—the director was temporarily removed from duties. District education chief Kuat Buzbayev said the teachers who submitted complaints continue working as normal while an interagency review proceeds.

Police response and next steps

Jetisu regional police stated they have begun reviewing the submitted materials. Any procedural decisions will be made in accordance with current law.

The district akimat has taken the situation under special oversight and plans to meet with the school’s teaching staff. Officials, including the deputy akim, said the learning process for students will continue without interruption.

Presumption of innocence

No final determination has been made regarding any wrongdoing. Authorities emphasized that all individuals are presumed innocent until an investigation is complete and legal conclusions are reached.
